For three hours once a week, we learn to be human –
To treat the person before the disease
And to speak up for our peers in need.
This week, we learn about depression.
They say the numbers only continue to rise
And we should always listen to a colleague's cries
For help.
But then we move on,
The matter resolved.
After all of three hours,
The problem is solved.
So then why, every year, do the losses compound?
Too many gone with barely a sound.
Because there is nothing to listen to if we are too scared to speak
And there is far more to learn than they taught us this week.
